Upcycled Mirror to Jewelry Organizer

We had a client contact us to make her something like this for a jewelry organizer...
So, we rummaged through my LARGE supply of frames and wood and came up with using an old mirror frame that was in much need of a new purpose.
My handsome partner and hubby got right in on this one and constructed the main body of the piece by adding a bead board backing for the frame.
Then, I had my guys (the muscle behind this whole operation) put it all together...Thanks Ron, you're best neighbor ever and not just because you have lots of cool tools and mad skills!
Then Steve used some half round trim and made the window paynes to achieve the look our client wanted. And I rummaged through our collection of pulls and knobs to make the hangers for necklaces...and ended up with a really cool, funky and eclectic look.
And then it all came together...
I finished it off by giving it a little personalization...a shabby little monogrammed birdie just for Emily.
And then there was the clean up...geez creativity is messy. Thanks honey for all you do for me :) Linking up to these fun parties... Debbie Doo's Be Different Act Normal Beyond the Picket Fence Under the Table and Dreaming Ginger Snap Crafts The Girl Creative Not Just A Housewife

Red Revival

This beautiful maple buffet was given to us to revive by a customer who wasn't really sure of what to do with it...after some brainstorming and seeing what colors she liked to use in her home, we came up with red! She gave me the freedom to do something a little more fun and two tone it with a dark walnut brown top and hardware.
I really like the effect, it helps to tone down the red, which can be a bold color choice. My customer really loved how it transformed, too. :)
She wasn't a big fan of the retro hardware when it was in it's original maple color. She was considering having new hardware put on and discarding this. We are such recyclers that we talked her out of that, and she trusted our judgement...I'm so glad she did because I think this hardware has substance and really ties the two colors together.
I just really couldn't be happier with this one...and as usual, I wish I could keep it! Revived Vintage Cabinet-Before and After

We have a customer that wanted us to make this lovely vintage cabinet a showcase piece in her entry way. It was very shabby in it's original condition, but we couldn't wait to freshen her up a bit and make her pretty again.
We agreed that this piece should be left in her authentic glory and just refinish the original hardware and keep everything, even if it wasn't all functional. I'm so glad we did.
She wanted the inside painted to finish it off and make it look nice with the doors open.
Lots of layers of paint on this one...sometimes I love to keep those layers, they are part of the history of the piece. And this one has lots of history, I'm sure.
We gave it a few coats of buttercream and distressed and glazed the distressed areas, and refinished all of the original hardware with oil rubbed bronze. I love it...it really turned out better than I had hoped. With lots of vintage wear and details that make it so much more special.

Chest Revival

We got this little chest off of craigslist and I immediately fell in love with the rustic, chunky design of it. I think it was handmade, and it is really good quality.
And with a little cleaning and reviving...here it is now...
Now it's way too hot here to do anymore painting, so I am going to hang by the pool. Enjoy your weekend!!!

Hutch Love

I wish we would learn...learn that to really appreciate the beauty of a good furniture transformation, BEFORE PICTURES ARE A MUST! We get so darn pumped to revive every piece from the craptastic conditions in which we acquire them, that before we can even think of taking a picture, we've sanded and slapped on a coat of primer or paint. Darn it...but, I'm sure if you've lived around the 70's and 80's, you know what dark, dark, dark wood furniture with gaudy gold hardware looks like. Then imagine that dark wood piece of furniture being used as a cat scratching post for most of its life.
This is what she looks like now...all revived and glorious.
Much to his dismay and despite his multiple punctured fingertips, Steve replaced the dated glass in the cabinet doors with oh so chic chicken wire. (I never would have thought I'd say chic and chicken wire in the same sentence...)I love how it completely changed the look of this piece.
I am so loving on this hutch...I think we should keep her :) Linking Up to: http://debbie-debbiedoos.com/ (Debbie Doo's Newbie Party) http://bec4-beyondthepicketfence.blogspot.com/ (Beyond the Picket Fence Under $100 Party)

For the love of Birds

I am head over heals, in love with anything that has a bird on it. So, when Steve was describing his vision for this little dresser, I was like "you had me at bird."
This was by far, the most disgusting dresser we have bought to date. It was not only caked with layers of shiny, drippy paint, it smelled to high heaven. My garage stunk for two days just from having this little baby in it. But, thanks to a lot of sanding, cleaning, gluing and painting...you'd never know what a hot mess she once was.
I also revived this vintage chalkboard...I think I love chalkboards almost as much as I love birds. What's not to love, right?
